Preschool & Kindergarten

2 years, 8 months - 6 years

Children enter Early Childhood Services (ECS) with us as early as two years eight months and can continue through preschool and kindergarten until they enter grade one.

Step by Step is a private ECS provider that follows the Alberta Education curriculum and standards.

Funding to attend the ECS program could be provided by accessing Program Unit Funding (PUF) from Alberta Education. If your child has been screened and found to have significant developmental delays or disability they may be eligible. We work with children that have a wide range of diagnoses, including but not limited to, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, global developmental delay, apraxia, Rett syndrome, spinal muscular atrophy, and speech/communication delays.

Led by a certified teacher, our classes offer a high level of adult to child support. Speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, music therapy, and behaviour support may be included as part of your child’s program depending on their areas of need.

If you are interested in registering your child for the 2024-2025 school year please submit an ECS Registration Inquiry.

  • Funding

    Program Unit Funding (PUF)

If your child has a significant and documented delay or disability they may be eligible for PUF.

As a PUF provider we can determine whether your child would be eligible in accordance with Alberta Education standards. Parents are not able to apply for PUF themselves.

If eligible, a speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, and behaviour strategist may be apart of your child’s team depending on their areas of need.

    Mild/Moderate

Mild/Moderate funding is also provided by Alberta Education for children that do not meet the eligibility requirements for PUF but still require additional support.

We support children who are eligible for Mild/Moderate funding at several community preschools and daycares.

  • Transportation

Transportation to and from ECS classes can be provided within our transportation area for children that are eligible.
