    The developmental aide is responsible for working in client’s homes or in the community to implement strategies provided by therapists and behaviour strategists to target a child’s individuals goals. Developmental aides works in close collaboration with members of the child’s team to create a program that encourages each child to meet their full potential while supporting parents to implement and utilize strategies as well.  The role requires aides to be able to work in the home of the client and be able to transport themselves around the city to various locations. 

    Responsibilities

    • Plan activities and implement strategies that promote the child’s goals in consultation with therapists and behaviour strategists.  

    • Implement independent and supported play, as well as help the child develop their daily living skills. 

    • Promote the development of communication skills, which may include an augmentative communication system. 

    • Provide a fun, positive environment that builds connection and encourages the child’s success. 

    • Support and enable parents to implement effective strategies in their homes. 

    • Work in collaboration with other individuals involved in the care of the child. 

    • Accurately account for timecard entries using the organization’s tracking system. 

    • Adhere to all of Step by Step’s policies and procedures. 

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma, additional education in related field is preferred.  

    • Willingness to work in client’s home which are located throughout Calgary. 

    • Able to lift 40lbs and keep up with active work on your feet.  

    • Must be able to work at a child’s level - i.e., able to be down on the floor to play. 

    • Able to produce a clear criminal record check including a vulnerable sector check after being hired. 

    • Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required.  

    • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal.

    Position Summary

    We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Physiotherapist (PT) to join our team. The successful candidate will support the development of motor skills and physical function in-home with clients that are accessing services through Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD). Clients span in age from 2-7 years with a range of diagnoses, including but not limited to, autism spectrum disorder and cerebral palsy. Services are provided in Calgary, with daytime hours and/or early evening session available dependent on the contract.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide evidence-based in-home intervention and consults with a family-centered care approach.

    • Communicate and collaborate effectively with an inter-disciplinary team.

    • Work within the parameters of FSCD model.

    • Implement therapeutic interventions and techniques aimed at improving gross motor skills, mobility, coordination, strength, and physical independence.

    • Communicate effectively with families and caregivers to provide support, guidance, and feedback.

    • Adapt therapy strategies to meet the unique developmental needs of each child and the goals of their families.

    • Provide education and training to families and caregivers on physiotherapy activities and strategies to facilitate progress.

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of goals, strategies, progress notes, and year end summaries.

    • Ensure hour tracking is current and accurate.

    • Stay informed about current research, best practices, and advances in pediatric physiotherapy through continuing education, workshops, and professional conferences.

    • Maintain license and certification requirements, adhering to ethical standards and guidelines set forth by the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

    Qualifications/Required

    • Master's degree in Physiotherapy.

    • Registered member, in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

    • Specialization or experience in pediatric physiotherapy preferred.

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, families, and a multidisciplinary team.

    • Exceptional organizational skills.

    • Compassion, patience, and a genuine desire to positively impact the lives of the families we serve.

    • Valid Alberta driver’s license, access to a vehicle during work hours, and willingness to drive to homes throughout Calgary.

    • Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector check.
